A friend of Urgent.ly’s was recently killed in the line of duty and we’re expressing our condolences by encouraging everyone to join us in contributing to a fund to support his family.
Najdi Hicham, otherwise know as AJ, was on a non-Urgent.ly call doing what he’d done so many times before, hooking up a customer’s car – this time near Tysons Corner, VA. According to police, a large truck struck AJ, a father of three, and killed him.
AJ drove for Urgent.ly partner company Fairfax Towing and Recovery.
In the wake of the tragedy drivers have emphasized that consumers should pay heed to the Move Over Law, which requires people to move over, if it’s safe to do so, or slow down when passing emergency vehicles and tow trucks on the side of the road.
Said Josh Sylvia-Najdi, AJ’s son: “If we can do this and save a handful of people’s lives, like fathers, brothers or friends, that’s all I want, just to raise awareness and help save other people from a tragedy.”
Amen to that.
To help raise money for AJ’s family please head to the fundraising site here and join Urgent.ly’s donation of $500.
