Polestar Tow Mode: Servicer Instructions for Towing a Polestar Vehicle

Recovery vehicle/tow truck PS2

Please update your vehicle and driver information and agree to the new Terms and Conditions by September 15, 2018.
*In Utah and Wisconsin, you must agree to terms and conditions by October 15th.

Use recovery vehicle/tow truck where all wheels are on the platform, see picture below. This method will ensure the highest quality of the car.

Remove the five plugs and lift up the panel.

If use of recovery vehicle/tow truck as described above is not possible and the car must be moved urgently to not block other cars from being discharged you can do the following to move the car aside until technicians can take care of the vehicle.

There are two alternatives:

If the vehicle can’t be moved but have power on HV battery, tow it with help from another vehicle. Follow the instructions below:

To be able to tow the vehicle you need to put the vehicle in tow mode. Do the following steps:

NOTE: If the vehicle is not standing on flat ground, secure the wheels with chocks (non slip wedge). Otherwise the vehicle will start rolling when towing mode is applied.

If vehicle needs to be towed a short distance or moved without getting started / start is failing.

Get vehicle in UsageMode Active, release park brake and then go down in UsageMode again. This is done accordingly

Step 1

Press brake pedal + Double press hazard button

UsageMode = Active

(DIM, centerstack, exterior lights are lit up. Also the powersteering is activated

Step 2

Remove Key blister pack from vehicle (enough to hold outside of window) Wait 6s

This step is to not start the vehicle in next step, which then would apply auto Park

Step 3

Press brake pedal + pull gear lever towards you fully for more than 3s.

Step 4

Now the vehicle is in Neutral and are free to move, brakes and servo is also active.

(Vehicles should not be towed faster than 5 km/h which can injure the electric motors)

When vehicle is moved to its
location and parked, secure the
vehicle according to step 5-6.

Step 5

Press P button

Electric park brake applies. This can be heard from brake system.

Step 6

Press brake pedal + Double press hazard

UsageMode = InActive
(exterior lights are turned off. Also the powersteering is deactivated)
(If not performed, vehicle will not
fall asleep and drain battery)

Extra Info if issues emerge:

  • Key must be awake to go to UsageMode Active / Driving, shake or press Keyfob if nothing happens in step 1.

  • The vehicle has minimum wake up triggers during transport to not drain battery, If vehicle do not wake up on brake pedal – Press the trunk handle which is able to wake up the vehicle.

When towing is needed, take contact with your ordinary Volvo outbound Logistic team.

If the vehicle have no power on high voltage battery and is completely dead, the P-break on rear axle is applied and will not release.
If towing mode can’t be selected and to move the vehicle is necessary, lift the vehicle on rear wheels and tow it with front wheels on the ground.

Move the vehicle gently on its front wheels (max speed 5 km/h and max distance 500 meters)
